"Honey am home!"
Fred was all smiles as he stepped into his apartment. His wife will definitely love this surprise! He'd gotten her something she yearns for every time she's pregnant.
She was actually in her 9th month and was due to put to bed anytime within the next 3 weeks.
He closed the door and turned towards the staircase, suddenly he froze.
Right at the base of the staircase, his beloved wife was lying in a pool of blood. It didn't take a CSI to know what happened. She had definitely tripped while trying to go down the staircase and tumbled all the way down.
Fred flung away his briefcase and every other thing he was holding. He lifted his wife and rushed off to the car. A couple of minutes later, he was speeding away to the hospital.
The nearest hospital was barely 15 minutes away, but the traffic at that time of the day could triple the duration of the journey. Fred couldn't bear the sight of his wife bleeding away in the back seat of his car. He immediately took the one - way lane. His wife's life was at stake!
He arrived at the hospital and without even bothering to turn off the engine, he rushed into the reception to get some help. Minutes later, his wife was wheeled into the operating room.
Fred couldn't stop pacing about as he silently prayed for the life of his wife and his unborn baby. He made countless promises to God just to keep them alive.
Every time a nurse walked out of the operating room, Fred will run up to her to know "how far". He was always greeted with the usual:
"relax sir, the doctors are doing everything they can..."
Hours later, the doctor finally walked out.
"How is she doctor, how is my wife?"
"Your wife is alive and well" the doctor replied.
Fred heaved a sigh of relief.
"But..." the doctor paused for a while.
"But we lost the baby..."
