There exists different types of sense organs which makes us aware of changes taken place within us. Sense organs include: The Eyes, The Ears, The Tongue (taste buds), Nose(olfactory organ) and Skin....
What is Sense Organ?
Sense organ is a group of specialised cells, tissues or receptors which is able to receive, perceive or detect stimulus and transmit impulse or information to the central nervous system.
Sensation of the Skin
The mammalian skin has a rich supply e sensory receptors. These detect stimuli that enables us to feel, touch, pressure, pain, cold and heat. The skin can be considered to be a sense organ though it is not specialise in detecting only one type of stimuli like the other sense organs....
Organs of smell(Nose)
The olfactory are restricted to the upper region of the Nasac Cavities. Nerve ending for detecting smell cells are located at the top of nasal cavity.
Organ of taste (Tongue)
In mammals, taste chemo receptors are grouped on the upper surface of the tongue, on the soft palate and in the epithelium at the back of the mouth, on the tongue these group of taste receptors are found in structures called Taste buds.
We experience 4 types of basic taste:
sweet: which can be tasted at the front of the tongue.
sour: which can be tasted at the side of the tongue.
bitter: which can be tasted at the back of the tongue.
Salty: which can be tasted at the front of the tongue.
The Eyes
The sense of sight or vision enables us to see our external environment. In mammals, the visual stimulus is detected by Photo receptors. Eyes is a spherical organ known as the eye ball. It is located in a bong socket in skull.
The Ear
The mammalian ear is divided into three categories:
- The outer ear
- The middle
- The Inner....
Next post I'll treat it one after the other.....
