For most people with albinism — or lack of pigmentation — if the word albino is used respectfully, it's perfectly acceptable. The disorder is genetic, and it can affect just the eyes, or the eyes and the skin. These myths have existed throughout history and continue to negatively affect the lives of many people with albinism (PWA), even to this day.Here are some of the most common myths surrounding albinism.

1. Albinism is contagious.
2. Albinism is a curse or a punishment.
3. Albinos are less intelligent.
   These misconceptions should be cleared away because Albinos form an integral part of our society.

Albinos are human too because;

1. They are intelligent as normal humans are.Albinism does not have an impact on a person’s
   intelligence. Albinism merely affects the level of melanin in the body. It has nothing to do with the brain, and most people with albinism have average levels of intelligence.

2. They are not cursed.Albinism is a genetic condition that results in a lack or total absence of melanin (pigmentation) in the body. It is not a
   curse or a punishment for past wrongs. It is purely an autosomal-recessive genetic condition that affects around 1 in 20,000 people in North America and Europe.

3. Albinism cannot be caught and it is not contagious.

4.They are equally important and as such they must be regarded as humans too.Segregating them from humans make them feel unwanted in society...They are necessary and must be considered part of our very existence in life.
