                        We can live for quite a few moments without oxygen, but they are going to be absolutely horrible moments.

                        There is actually about 20.95% oxygen within the air. The vast majority of it is nitrogen. Alternatively, in the other direction, exhaling waste byproducts is almost always taken for granted, but is at least as important as inhaling oxygen. It's the other end of the chain of chemical reactions that keeps our bodies doing their thing.

                        I've always liked the line: "I could live a few minutes without oxygen, but I couldn't go a second without you."
