When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Proverbs 29.2 KJV
A big facilitator to our ability to transform our world is being in positions of authority. To a large extent, Nehemiah was able to rebuild Jerusalem because he was highly placed in the Persian kingdom of Artaxerxes. He was the king’s personal assistant. Thus he could have audience with the king. He could also have access to resources of manpower, information and logistics to enable him carry out the mission that God laid on his heart. It is important to underscore that getting into authority is so that you will be a deliverer to people. We live in the reality of people getting into positions of power and influence for their own selfish interests. They don’t care about the people that God wants them to deliver. This is so wrong.
The best way to get into authority is to become an authority. To be an authority in a field is to be a master in that field. When we become masters, specialities or experts in our fields, we qualify to become leaders in our world. Becoming an authority (so as to be in authority) calls for diligence (wisdom and hard work). A man who is diligent in his business will become an authority in it and have room with great men, Pr. 22.29. Becoming an authority takes time. Therefore it calls for patience. With foresight, hard work, wisdom and patience all undergirded by God’s will and grace, we will be able to move ourselves into positions with enough leverage for impacting our world positively and maximally.
