An Indian man who arrived at Perth International Airport on Thursday, 2 May, has been refused entry to Australia after "abhorrent" material of child exploitation was found stored on his mobile phone. Australian Border Force officers stopped and questioned the 45-year-old after he arrived on a flight from Malaysia.

During a search of the man’s phone ABF officers discovered a video depicting child exploitation which contravened customs rules. Officers seized the phone, and cancelled the man’s tourist visa. He was detained and transferred to the Perth Immigration Detention Centre until his removal from Australia early on Sunday.

Though the video wasn't of a sexual nature it showed a child being physically assaulted, said ABF WA regional commander Rod O’Donnell to the media. Visitors to Australia need to be aware that imagery depicting any form of child exploitation is not permitted to be brought into Australia, said the Border Force.
