The real Knights Armament Company Masterkey has been in use with the US armed forces since the 1980's with the primary intention of breaching doors by shooting out the cylinder of the lock, thus gaining access to the premises.
This won't work in airsoft since the replica only fires plastic BB's. But the combo will fill a niche function that is rather important.

If a player is utilizing a powerful primary and is concerned about close encounters with opposing forces, the Masterkey will be a very viable option if there's no time to draw a sidearm or power down the primary weapon.

A shotgun is an area effect weapon, offering spread and multiple shots in one shell, unlike a carbine. The carbine, on the other hand, is capable of automatic firing, allowing you to spray-and-pray if precise aimed shots is not your thing.

Airsofters have, unfortunately, been rather limited in their access to Masterkeys, since the only viable option on the market is the G&P Masterkey kit, intended for Maruzen or G&P spring shotguns. This is in my eyes not viable, since they lack the panache I crave, hence I began my quest to adopt a APS CAM870 gas-in-shell shotgun to the G&P kit in order to mount it on a M4A1 carbine.

But let's not forget the most important part of this project: It's freakin' cool!
