And ironically Alaska may get rid of its Ranked Choice Voting open primaries.
Alaska Republicans got big mad as the new election system elected Democrat Mary Peltola. Sarah Palin (yes really her) played spoiler and Peltola was able to defeat her in the second round of RCV.
RCV isn't my favorite system, but I think it is an improvement over the status quo of first past the post.
Of course RCV can have center squeeze just like FPTP and that's what happened in Alaska. The extreme Sarah Palin got more Republican support in the first round than the other Republican Begich. He was eliminated. And then Peltola was able to defeat Palin. Peltola won even though a majority of voters had ranked Begich above her.
