FROM AFAR is the 4th studio album from the folk/melodic death metal band ENSIFERUM, formed by Petri Lindroos singing the harsh vocals and the lead guitar, Markus Toivonen playing the acoustic guitar and the backing vocals, Sami Hinkka singing the backing vocals as well and playing the bass guitar, Janne Parviainen at the drums and Emmi Silvennoinen at the keyboard (ooh, girl keyboardist, hot!), they released this album in September 2009 and is mainly inspired by Finnish mythology and you know, Viking tales of kicking ass and drinking ale (that's fine by me).

FROM AFAR (Yeah, like the album, these things happen a lot), is the 2nd track on the album (because the 1st one is a beautiful instrumental, you know, for the mood guys) and kicks hard with a tale of a prophecy of the end of the world, EPIC AF... the end of the world is always epic, animals dying, plants dying, birds dying, people dying, is really cool don't be a bunch of sissies... whatever milk-drinkers

ELUSIVE REACHES has to be one of my favorite songs from this album, mainly for the lyrics, the epic tale of a pair of twins, one charged to guard the sunlight and the other the nightfall, always chasing after one another but never reaching each other... oh, so that's why it's called Elusive Reaches, I don't know why I've never thoughted about that...

Ok, ok I know I'm cheating a bit here because I'm putting together the 8th and last song of the album, but I really think there's no other way to hear these two, first we have a track that consists of an only male chorus singing in Finnish, TUMMAN VIRRAN TAA tell us how difficult is the journey to the other world, Beyond the Dark Stream (Yes, Tumman Virran Taa means Beyond the Dark Stream, like the 1st track of the album), then THE LONGEST JOURNEY properly begins, and I like to divide them into 3 acts, first we have the introduction, slow riffs and harsh vocals presents you the very first part of the journey with a passage of the Kalevala (the most traditional Finnish text), finishing this part with the goal to reach the second part begins, describing what it takes to achieve the end of the journey singing the chorus and paving the way for some guitar and keyboard solos, the last part ends with a flurry of creccendos and a final epic chorus, did I mentios it was fucking EPIC, well, it IS LEGENDARILY EPIC... JUST... LIKE... THIS...
