Some people want to drink less, moderate, and some want to quit altogether. Quitting drinking or cutting down is a journey where in the end you just put one foot in front of the other and one day at a time. However, there are some tips that can help. A lot of it just has to do with having a good attitude. That is the most important thing.
Those that drink hard liquor or binge drink beer five, six, nights a week may need some assistance in the journey. That is only in the beginning though. There are many reasons people drink. However, drinking can be insidious, it creeps up on you, and after awhile it is such as ingrained habit grabbing that six, twelve, or case of beer from the store you almost do it automatically. People usually just start off with socializing, maybe they're shy, or everyone else was at the time. Additionally, people drink to forget something bad that happened, a loss of opportunity, or not wanting to deal with how they feel.
Drinking provided something to long term problem drinkers, however, when you wake up the issue is still there. Trust me...I've drank quite a few beers over a twenty year period. It's because people don't deal with the behavior. A guy that makes you tube videos put it best when he stated, "there is no such thing as a behavioral vacuum." If you quit drinking what are you going to replace it with. Until recently I used to think that things were boring if I wasn't "relaxing" having beers and I don't know listening to music, browsing youtube, or reading news articles.
It was only boring because I made it boring. I hadn't dealt with separating as much time between myself and drinking (the behavior) Furthermore, one can exercise. If you are inhibited from doing this do the maximum you can do even if it is just extra walking. I have been trying to walk more or do some light exercise. Come up with hobby's and habits such as Steem it, browsing your go to news website, or outings such as fishing, movies, trying new restaurants, or an interest in something like crypto.
If you do the preparation and get your mind right it seems like that's where the work is initially. Plan what you're going to do and who with. I know a lot of this seems like common sense and it is. However, people that drink heavily became involved with such an ingrained habit that they plan around drinking. It can become so automatic a person almost doesn't realize that they're doing something harmful. That's the behavior that needs to be ripped out. One last tip is to put as much time at the start between yourself and the behavior. Don't think of it as missing out or I can never drink. Just string some days together. Then people start to realize I was doing something that had a fractional amount of positive and a massive detrimental effect though. I will come up with more specific tips later.
Well explained.
