The Alec Baldwin decision was probably, understandably buried under the event that took place on Saturday.

Nonetheless, there's a lesson.

I believe that a guilty man went free. I also believe that the process is more important than the outcome.

I don't just understand the frustration in seeing Baldwin walk free for a crime that you and I would be put behind bars for -- I also feel it.

That doesn't change the fact that the state doesn't, and shouldn't, have the right to decide what evidence is material or immaterial.

To argue against the process that let Baldwin off is to argue against your own rights if, God forbid, you're ever on trial and facing prison time.

A person facing felony charges, guilty or not, can only hope that such a technicality is brought up and exploited.

Baldwin is a guilty man who won't be thrown in prison.

I'm okay with that so long as the process is maintained.
