ANCIENT COINS
Beginning last year I started investing in ancient coins. While this may seem like a huge step backwards with all the recent cryptocurrency craze, you can't go wrong focusing on highly liquid, and high demand coins from the period of Alexander the Great or Julius Caesar. The key to a good investment portfolio, is having stocks, cash, cryptocurrencies, art, collectibles, and physical precious metals.
An investment coin portfolio typically can give returns of over 50-60% every four years.
ALEXANDER STATER
The classic investment portfolio coin is the Alexander the Great 'Stater'. This coin dates from the 3rd century BC. The goddesses Athena and Nike are on each side of the coin. Alexander the Great used it to pay his soldiers. The coin is made from solid gold.
In 2008, many of these coins in excellent condition were going for $5000. 6 years later, same grade coin was for $11,000.
We can think of collecting coins as a nerdy or geeky hobby, but its had a proven track record over the past several decades. The key is not to just buy any coin. If you focus on Alexander the Great and Julius Caesar, you won't go wrong.
Below I have listed a few websites that I think are great for obtaining good quality coins:
www.ha.com - Heritage auctions
www.goldbergcoins.com - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins and Collectibles
