The great thing about apples is how versatile they are. You can just eat them out of hand, dip them in peanut butter or caramel or make a really outstanding recipe. Baked apples are a popular dessert and easy to make. All you need to do is core a large apple and add brown sugar, cinnamon, raisins and butter to it and bake in the oven. You could even add a little oatmeal to make a crust on the apple. The apple will hold its shape so it’ll look pretty and taste good!
Who doesn’t love caramel apples? I know I do, but sometimes it can get messy. Instead, I use a melon baller on a Granny Smith to make little apple balls, dip the apple pieces in melted caramel and finish it off with a pretzel stick. Voila – mini caramel apples! I have a lot of fun doing this with my kids, but these would also work for a party.
Apples and ice cream are another classic pairing. My version also includes sliced pears. Just throw sliced apples, pears, butter and brown sugar in a frying pan and soften the fruit. Spoon over the top of vanilla ice cream and you’ve got a fast and tasty treat. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
