I've noticed that humans like all inclusive prices

So much so that we would prefer to pay more rather than less as long as everything is bundled into one price. I think there's some illusion of a "free" service that confuses people.

Example one. I had a prof at a conference complain that our fancy hotel charged for newspapers. It wasn't a add-on charge. It was bundled into the room cost, but she had noticed that you could opt out of getting the paper and hotel would knock 50 cents a day off your bill. Somehow she seemed to think the hotel would actually provide a freebie to everyone instead of actually having customers cover that business cost.

Example two: complaints about having to pay for checked bags. Many people think checked bags should be "free." But baggage adds weight, requiring more fuel, and checked baggage requires baggage handlers and machinery to move it to baggage claim. Obviously airlines are going to make customers cover that cost. You can avoid it by only taking carry on bags. But if they don't charge a fee per checked baggage, then they'll just build it into the ticket price, and nobody will be able to avoid paying it.
