What a busy week it has been; Block #198 is loaded!
The two chicks incubated and born in Allodium even got their hands dirty!
Sammy and Spot
Caught red-handed! Or grey, rather... I gave each a foot bath shortly after ;)
The first project of the week was born out of frustration of stagnation after several rainy days.
So, I decided to do an indoor project.
This has been the front door of the insulated living space at OG Foundation.
The dirt floor of the entry room would get muddy after heavy rains.
A pallet with a rug over it was usually placed in this open space as a front step/landing (the cinder blocks are only there in prep).
I decided to pour an aircrete landing to extend the thermal insulation/ footprint.
I left the pallet in there.
A thin coat of mortar gives it a hard shell.
A video was made to document the process:
The next project of the week was insulating the Gate Tower with aircrete.
Aircrete fills the gaps between the tire structure and the rigid insulation board up against it.
It would have been easiest to leave it there, but I took it one step further...
Loads of insulative rubbish was placed in the gap, and aircrete poured over it!
I broke the mixer in the process, but found a ziptie within arms reach and after 2 minor electrocutions and some not-recommended usage of teeth to strip wires, I was back in business!
(I have been using it like it that all week)
A video was made to document the full extent of it:
The third project of the week was born out of uncertainty; as the weather forecast derailed the aircrete work.
This is the entry to the Gate Tower.
I claim no responsibility for those 3 tire stairs.
Now I claim responsibility for them.
It didn't take long for the chickens, dog, and cat to start destroying the rock work.
So, I've learned to apply the mortar quickly to avoid frustration and rock the many into 1!
This was a satisfying 1-day project; both because of the improved space, and because my hands were basically burned raw/sterile from all the aircrete work- playing in the dirt felt so good!
A video was made to document the project:
The weather has been a blessing :)
Here's a tease for a project to complete this coming week:
And the gatetower is begging for more aircrete...
Time to get more Portland!
A full week indeed! ;)
