With the onset of September, temps have dropped and it feels like fall is upon us.
At the beginning of the week, work started with setting the 2 plates(2xs sandwiched together) with the hinges in it (seen in last block), to get it mortared in and as level as possible.
No good pics were taken of that process, but while that mortar was setting, focus shifted to filling in the 'visor' opening, which is the south-facing window opening in the center of the Entry Hall.
First, a half-dozen tires were pounded to finish the front tirewall. Next, 2x4s were screwed down for the base plate for the windows, and then 8x recycled windows were squeezed into the opening.
With minimal framing, insulation board fills the gaps, and everything is secured with screws and spray-foam.
On the outside, the area is leveled, a drain pipe is installed, and the tirewall+ drainpipe is insulated.
Back to the arch-opening with the big hinged door...
After the hinges are level and post secure (pic left), the opening is framed, 2x windows are fitted in , and insulation fills the gaps.
Lath is applied, and mortar begins.
A full coat of rock covers the insulated steel around the opening.
This peep-hole is taped over so it stays clean.
Now, prepping for the door frame. A 2x6x8 has been ripped in half and bolted to the hinges.
A bit of excavation and tree (sumac) removal.
The door frame is outlined with 2x4s, then filled with insulation board and foamed.
Lath is applied and all prepped for mortar!
The top corner of the door is screwed to the top of the frame to hold it in place for now...
After one batch of mortar, the door is almost covered!

That's as far as I got in the last week!
There was another visitor in the last week...
A groundhog decided to push its luck from raiding the gardens in the lower field area by the shipping container, to coming up into the courtyard and getting at the peaches in the middle of the day!
A couple days later, it had a run-in with Lewis on less tactically-advantageous ground and got at least 1 good bite from Lewis! Unclear if it will survive, but if it does, it will certainly learn a lesson!
In Block #204, ending 9/6/2021, a total of 2801@ (Appreciation Tokens) were generated; 371@ were generated by the daily appreciation of 53 members, 540@ were generated by 54 hours of labor exhausted for the Cooperative, and 1890@ were generated by 189 OG Creds (Ø); bringing the total to 323,680@.
