Alphabet Art Challenge Day 16 - Pen Pal Poem

Alphabet Art Challenge Day 16 - Pen Pal Poem

I don't always write poetry, but when I do it's often simple gibberish.

Today's poem is written on a piece of notebook watercolor paper I striped with blue and red watercolor to simulate a piece of notebook paper. This piece of paper is also the practice sheet from my previous installment of AM Scribbles.

Pen Pal Poem
Way back then Pat wrote with a pen
To his friend Pam who was a wren
What letters they wrote
Until Pam was smote
With a very bad case of writer's block that prevented any more correspondence.

This is a straightforward personal creativity challenge started by @tonyr. Every form of artistic expression is invited.

Challenge guidelines:
Create an original work every day for 26 days.
The subject matter of the first days work must start with the letter 'A', day 2 with the letter 'B' and so on until you reach the letter 'Z' on day 26. If you miss a day it's back to the start.

I love the physicality of paper and words actually written on a page. Recreating this with watercolor just takes it to another level.

Ah, thank you for noticing the details. They're always the best part of life, if you ask me. I appreciate you having a look at today's letter.

I think your name @enternamehere is brilliant My mom is trying to sign up for steem and has writers block on what to call herself... This is perfect... Love the use of watercolor paper and the perfect imperfections of it... ahh the throwback to pen pals... now we write to each other so many times a day it is silly. I remember the excitement of getting a letter in the mail... Very cool I like that you use your own Tag I also have taken to doing that with #allowistic glad i randomly found your post.... New follower here love creative people!

Thank you for commenting. I was in the same boat you describe your mother to be in when I made my account here. I drew a blank for my username and went with it. Has she tried, "username"? Or "steemit.username"? Yes indeed we are living in a world of instant communication. Maybe scarcity is part of why handwritten notes are still special to so many people.

I remember coming across one of your posts from a couple months ago, your Artcycled Tree of Knowledge. Our paths have crossed again, randomly. This time I'm following you! ☺

ha, my favorite part is definitely when she got writers block and the rhyming instantly ends! I would actually love to see a longer poem, I think you have the skills to do it!

I'd been working on this poem for what felt like way too long, that was my way of "giving up" on it :)

Writing poetry is like being in a strange and foreign land to me, and yet I still give it a go now and then. We'll see what poems the future holds!

I can certainly relate to spending more than required time on something I probably shouldn't. (Though I don't think this poem is one of those.) I thought it was classic. ESPECIALLY the last part. A real turn there. And entertaining.
Your photo is epic too. Kind of like you're bursting with cosmic blue creative energy, and it's seeping out from everywhere. Way cool.

I appreciate your support! Getting a poem out felt like real work (I wrote three incompletes too), but it was fun in its own way.

I'm liking your interpretation of the photo! It definitely gives me an electric aura. Plus the combination of the elements in the composition is another bonus layer: water, electricity, gold. Thank you for stopping by today ☺

Lmao epic poem hahaha.... and I love that shirt your rocking in the photo!!

Good eye! It's one of my favorite shirts, thanks for having a look at Q ☺

I like how it seemed to stop after "smote" just like the reader's heart before hurrying along to find out it was just writer's block, phew XD Hope the poor wren is able to eventually recover. Lovely "gibberish" really :D

Lol, yes, things could have been much worse for Pam. Glad to share, thanks for stopping by!

Very neat and creative idea. It's too bad there could no longer be correspondence between the pen pals :( lol

Yes it is too bad. And Pam never recovered from her condition either.

Thanks for commenting! ☺

Is that you in the cool colored photo?? Whoever, it's very interesting!
Also, I loved the lines you painted to look like notepaper. See how creative you are? Always amazes me.

The art of being a pen pal is lost - I had a pen pal via email for 15 years. True story. :)

Yep, that's me. The inverted solarization effect is really cool, I almost look like Raiden from Mortal Kombat lol!

Reliable pen pals are hard to come by in today's busy population, or so it seems. There are a few groups within society that really keep the pen pal spirit alive (school children, inmates, retirees :D). What do those groups of people share in common? Free time.

I am curious, have you and your pen pal ever met after all these years?? After that long it seems like meeting in person would be either very critical or completely unimportant, no grey area.

Thanks as always for your glowing praise!

Yes we did meet. We used to talk on the phone for a year or so, then we went to Florida for a week After that I flew out to meet her family. Things fell apart after that!! lol....I found out some things that were very uncomfortable do I ended the friendship. I guess a one dimensional friendship was best.

I do miss her a lot. She was like my living diary. We were like kindred spirits really, except for that unmentionable situation.

The inverted solarization effect IS cool. Is that photoshop or LR or??

Oh man, that's a shame. At least you have the memories and the experience. I've had a few pen pals in my time too, I know what you mean by "living diary". Although, my pen pals were people I already knew before we started writing, so I've not had the kind of awkward encounter you described.

I actually used Open Office Draw! It has a handful of neat effects for pictures, thanks for asking.
