A cave is a special phenomenon in life. Even historical and grand events, the elect receive revelation, and get inspiration in the cave. The Hermits took the road to calm life, some took the cave as an option.

A cave is a natural hole in the ground that is quite large and deep. Some scientists explain that he must be big enough so that some parts in it do not receive sunlight; but in general use the understanding is quite broad, including the protection of rocks, sea caves.

The word "cave" comes from the Sanskrit guha [1].

In the past, Mount Slamet in Central Java had experienced an eruption. The eruption is effusive or melt and not explosive eruption, with lava flow almost to all slopes, both to the south, east, north and west.

One of the geological proofs of the eruptive eruption of Mount Slamet is the Lawa Cave in Karangreja, Purbalingga district with cave ornaments such as melt lava or bat wings (lawa).

Lawa Cave which is predicted to have formed the Holocene era or 10 thousand years ago is unique compared to other caves which are formed from karst or limestone.

Since 1979, Lawa Cave was developed into a tourist destination by the Purbalingga Regency Government while maintaining its original condition, only adding accessories such as lightning to strengthen the impression of a cave formed from melted lava

What happened hundreds of thousands or even millions of years ago on Mount Slamet?

Geological evidence reveals, that Mount Slamet in Central Java experienced an eruption. The eruption is effusive and not explosive.

This phenomenon was predicted by geologists from Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) Purwokerto, Central Java, Siswandi, also on Mount Slamet 200 thousand years ago. According to him, Mount Slamet at that time experienced an effusive eruption. Lava flow everywhere, almost on all slopes to the south, east, north and west.

Another phenomenon that arises is the formation of the Lawa Cave in Karangreja, Purbalingga. Lawa Cave was formed as a result of lava river or lava flow that came out of the crater of the volcano in the past.
"Lava is a glowing hot liquid material. When it comes into contact with air or water so it gets cold, rocks form. Can be seen in the phenomenon that occurred on Mount Kilauea. This phenomenon also occurs in The Plosky Tolbachik Volcano in Russia," Siswandi said.

In the process of forming Lawa Cave, lava came out of ancient Slamet Mountain. The center of the crater is not the current crater. Lava that comes out of the crater down the valley to form a river.

"When lava comes out to the surface and comes in contact with air, it will turn cold, then turn into hard rock. But not with the flow of lava on the inside. Under the frozen lava, there is still liquid and continues to flow. Thus, the upper lava forms cloaks and hard domes. Whereas the lower chamber where liquid lava flows, forms an empty space which then becomes a cave. "The lava river trail has cooled and left rocks in the cave," he explained.
