I bought this has a Christmas gift to help my dad in renovating my house.
Plasterboard/Drywall screws often cause metal splinters when picked up by uncovered hands, these can be very distracting and painful. One choice is to tip screws into a belt pouch but that's less than ideal as you risk stabbing your fingers as you get them out. However these wrist straps are perfect, a strong magnet picks up a few dozen screws at a time and make selection of the screws much safer, quicker and easier. The pockets are useful for housing spare drill bits and/or other small tools required.
Positive points:
1 - This strap has relatively strong magnets, you don't risk sticking to radiators/pipes as you walk past but they do very securely hold magnetic materials.
2 - The strap has a retention loop that goes on first, giving extra security.
3 - The strap is adjustable so it fits a large variety of wrist sizes and will even fit over a large insulated jacket.
4 - Lots of pockets for odd items.
5 - Strong magnets.
A few considerations which shouldn't put you off buying, but are worthy of note:
1 - these only pick up magnetic screws/nails, this means it doesn't work with some stainless steel screws/nails/bolts.
2 - the wrist band can make the wrist a little hot and can sweat. Professional building isn't a comfortable job so this is a minor niggle and a far less uncomfortable experience than drywall screw splinters.
3 - sometimes screws stick to the magnets head first (in a position where the sharp end extends outwards from the wrist), as the magnets should be on the back of the hand this wouldn't usually pose a problem and they can be flattened if necessary. It actually makes them easier to pick up.
Overall highly recommended for anyone in the trade using lots of nails/screws especially when fixing drywall without the benefit of a screw gun.
