Have you ever visited the amazing city that is located in Texas, the Corpus Christi city? Well, you have to know that this wonderful city covers 452.2 square miles, of which 124.3 are land, and 327.9 is water.
Interesting fact, right? It is if you love nature! Talking about nature, for nine years, from 2003 to 2011, Corpus Christi was declared as the “Birdiest City” in the nation with the more individual species counted than in any other city.
Isn’t this beautiful? I think it is and some of the facts above are just simple and not even that amazing facts that you have to know about the special city in Texas, there are so many other reasons you should visit Corpus Christi, and one of them is the Padre Island National Seashore.
Wondering what the Padre Island National Seashore is? Well, I think the name says it all, but let me tell you anyway, it is a national seashore that is located on Padre Island, which is the coast of South Texas.
The South part is all about the beaches and vacations, but the North part is a long beach where nature is preserved, and it is the longest undeveloped barrier island in the world.
The seashore is about 70miles/110km, long 65.5 miles/105.4km of Gulf beach. You can explore the variety of pristine beach, dune, and low tidal environments, which include the Laguna Madre, that is located on the west coast, and it is the famous spot for windsurfing.
The abbreviation for the Padre Island National Seashore is PAIS.
Talking about the PAIS, you should know that the parks are private and that camping is available. The beaches are only accessible to vehicles.
The beautiful PAIS is the fourth designated national seashore in the United States.
Talking about how Corpus Christ was declared as the “Birdiest City” and the PAIS, I have to tell you about the bird migration route,
The Central Flyway, this means that 45% of all bird species were documented, which means around 380 species of birds have been documented in this park. How beautiful thing nature gives us, right?
It’s just a park, just a route for the most wonderful species! How amazing… But if you are wondering can you see the birds migrate? Well yes! The best time to see the bird migrants is early spring or fall and winter.
So, basically visiting PAIS you can camp, canoeing and kayaking, watch turtles, go fishing, birding, just enjoy the nature, you can visit the beaches, and an amazing thing is that PAIS is pet-friendly!
There are no public restaurants, so bring food and something to drink! The PAIS is open every day, throughout the whole year!
Entrance cost is 10$ per vehicle, and there is parking on the beach. Also, you can follow them on Facebook, https://www.facebook.com/nps.pais/.
