Independence Day.

Today marks the celebration of back in 1996 when Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum defeated the aliens from destroying the planet. Bill Pullman was there too. They smoked cigars to congratulate each other. It was a day to rememberโฆ. Wait. That isnโt right.

The 4th of July commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence back in 1776. Declaring an end to the British rule of our newly formed country.
Thomas Jefferson signed the Declaration of Independence.
He was this nationโs third president. He also owned hundreds of slaves in Virginia.
It was written by a British author, Thomas Day, โIf there be an object truly ridiculous in nature, it is an American patriot, signing resolutions of independency with one hand, and with the other brandishing a whip over his affrighted slaves.
America wasnโt perfect in 1776 and it isnโt perfect today in 2018.
We have many injustices.
We have many problems.
We have many who suffer on a daily basis.
America is not perfect.

Life has always had a battle between Good and Evil.
To be more accurate, every person has a battle of Good and Evil inside of them every day.
Each and every day, we must choose how we will behave and think and show up in the world.
What decisions will we make?
Will they be made with our own prosperity in mind?
Will we consider who else our decisions will affect?
What causes will be important to us?
America is not perfect.
It never has been.
It probably never will be.
However, what if we all made a personal declaration of independence ourselves.
America declared independence from Britain.
We should declare independence from Evil.
We can declare that we will make the difficult decision to:
๐บ๐ธ Be better people to ourselves.
๐บ๐ธ Be better people to our neighbors.
๐บ๐ธ Be better people to our loved ones.
๐บ๐ธ Be better people to our strangers.
America is our land. America is only as good as the people inside of it.
I want to challenge you to ask yourself a simple question:
What would America look like, if everyone had your level of love towards others?
What would America look like, if everyone from the cop to the criminal, from the millionaire to the homeless, if everyone gave the same effort that you were giving towards creating a better America?
๐บ๐ธ How would America look? ๐บ๐ธ
The one thing I have learned is every single person in the world is outside of my control.
The only person I can control is myself. And that is true of us all.
So, this Independence Day, I ask you to have a serious conversation with the only person you can control: Yourself.
Ask yourself:
Will you be another person that complains about the aspect of America you hate, yet wait for someone else to do something about it, or Will you stand strong in your conviction and work to help all people?
What do you want this America to look like, and are you willing to be an example of that America every day of your life?
๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ
America was not and is not perfect, but what are you willing to do about it?
๐บ๐ธ ๐บ๐ธ
Happy 4th of July everyone.
