American in Germany; Chainsaw Work

Hey Steemitdom!

Well, I finally got my chainsaw operational and I got to get out there this morning during a break in the fall rain.

In Northern Germany everyone has these “bollerwagon’s” the are pretty handy for hauling kids, firewood, anything!

About three years ago there was a huge typhoon that came from the sea and downed about 10-15 trees on the property. My landlord never got around to cleaning up the mess and said I was welcome to the wood if i wanted it! Score!

Here is where I got started. You can see there are a couple of “leaners” that I had to clear out to get to that large tree in the back (the three small one's leaning on each other). The way you get these trees on the ground safely is called fence posting.

You want to start near the base and clean up the area as much as you can before beginning your cuts. Remove the branches and make sure you have a clear escape route for when the tree starts to fall.

The first cut you make is a face cut on the top of the leaner like this. It will release the tension when you make your back cut from underneath to bring down the tree. Otherwise, you will get your saw pinched and that is not fun.

The first section is free! Then you can keep working your way up the tree until it's down.

Got them all down and bucked for only the cost of a tank of gas and about 15 minutes!

I cut them to around 30cm In order to fit in my fireplace once they are split.

Always remember safety first!

Have a great one!

Love me some chainsaw time..Wouldn't mind a bollerwagon either. Bit jelly over that. 😄

Edit: Want me one of those fluro-star-wars-death-star-weapon-targeting-guy-helmets too.

Man oh man, you're living the life!

Hahaha! It is a nice stress relief kind of like shooting!

It's a fire department helmet! Badass huh? 🤣🤣🤣

Nice to have the trees down and not on the ground like that. The wood should be perfectly seasoned now.

That helmet is bad ass and that wagon is baller! I would love to have one that strong. Looks like it is made to last forever!

The wood is so nice! I’m going to borrow my buddies splitter though and try and get it all done it time for winter. I was out all day and have a ton of cut up wood out there now!
