We had some crazy rains already this fall, and unfortunately, it washed out our driveway pretty bad.
We live way out in the sticks, here in Northern Germany, and our driveway is over 300 meters long. When you have to drive that distance 2-6 times a day overall of those potholes, it can take a toll on your vehicle. As well as a toll on your sanity!
My landlord is well aware of this and we decided to contact a local company to see how much it would cost to get it repaired. Long story short, it would cost over €1,800.00 plus 19% in taxes.
Yeah, not happening.
Being the resourceful badger I am, I started asking around the farmers if they had any spare gravel on hand. Well, good ole’ farmer Jensen came through with €150.00 for a tractor wagon full of recycled concrete from Denmark. The good stuff!
After lunch today the gravel was delivered and immediately applied to the driveway. It took me and a family friend only one hour to get it done and of course, we were one wheelbarrow short.
Thankfully though, all the major holes are filled.
My wife had to run errands after work so all 3 kids had to help out and they were happy to do so. My son sat proudly in the tractor for the duration of the work while my daughters followed behind the wagon jumping in puddles and “helping” me fill holes.
The work is done for the day and now I can breathe a sigh of relief that the holes are filled and I don't have to listen to everyone griping about the drive to our house! 🤣
Sometimes it pays to do it yourself and I hope that being it is premium gravel it won't just wash out in the first rainfall. We shall see.
One more project checked off the list before winter hits!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Seems that your kids put up almost all the efforts for the repairs of the driveway :)

My friend has a driveway like this and getting to her house is hair raising! I'm glad you were able to fix it yourself. Kids are sure cute, learning to be resourceful themselves.

Interessant! Könnten neue Regenfälle die Ausbesserungen wieder wegwaschen oder hält so etwas auf längere Sicht?

Tractor/trailer is awesome! Belongs to my in-laws, a retired farmer, and he is always eager to help. Thankful for that!

Hope so! Last winter was really mild I never even had to shovel snow, but then we got invaded by ticks this summer, so I am hoping for a good winter. But it stays pretty mild by the seas here so it's nice at least!

Yeay for the recycled Danish concrete! May it keep your potholes filled. Love to see these DIY projects. Can't see how someone would pay close to 2 grand for something that you got done for €150.
