On The Wings Like An Eagle
The bird Eagle in undoubtedly the most popular bird known to mankind. It is referred to as the king of all flying animals. Many who are conversant with the bird must have seen them on drawings and television – they are rarely seen as their abode is the high altitudes where humans dare not stay. The Eagle is a well-known carnivorous animal.
The Eagle occupies a vantage position on the insignia of many nations, institutions, organizations and also that of individuals. The acclaimed most powerful nation on earth The United States of America has it on her coat of arms, so also Germany and Nigeria to mention but a few. In many countries, historic and landmark parks, objects and edifices are named after this bird. People in on planet earth took nicknames of this bird. In Nigeria, there is Eagle Square, all our national teams both senior, junior, male and female are all named after this unique bird.
What makes the Eagle this significant? They live at high altitudes. No known turbulent wind can stop or redirect their flight, as carnivores they pick their prey, when on flight they are swift and maintain the desired course, they do take care of their offspring wonderfully. For many who opted for the Eagle as their symbol or nickname, they all banked their strength, speed and supreme power of focus. The Eagle is known for their far sight or vision, and accurate planning and execution of set out duties.
The Christian Holy Book, The Bible made an age long allusion to the Eagle in the book of Isaiah. He admonished people to renew their strength, mount with wings like the eagle and not be wary. What ticks about the strength of the Eagle and its strength? Let’s look at the life and times of an Eagle. An average Eagle lives for about 70 years. All through their life span, the Eagle remains much active as they were in the period of their youth.
It is not always smooth and easy for the Eagle in their lifetime. By the time many of them cross the age of 40, their claws they were born with are becoming ineffective and a burden for them. They cannot catch their prey easily any longer. Also at the same time, their beaks has grown so long and curvy that they now point to their chest instead of forward. Lastly, their wings and the whole feathers are now full grown and long making it very very heavy for the bird to fly. At this time frame, for the Eagle to remain alive and display its inherent capabilities, they opt for a season of rebirth and renewal of strength.
The renewal, rebirth or the second series of metamorphosis embarked by the Eagle takes about one hundred and fifty [150] days. To commence the process, although they are now quite heavy, they retrain themselves to fly again. They regain their flight mastery and fly to the pinnacle of high mountains to build a next. Once the nest is ready, they put a stop to all activities and retire to the nest.
At the time the Eagle was looking for a place to nest, only granite spots on the high mountains are considered. Once they get settled, a three prong process sets in. Firstly, they pull off their over grown beaks. This they achieve by knocking off the beak on the granite walls of the mountain. Having knocked off the beak, they grow new ones. The second phase commences once the new beak is grown and mature. It is used to gradually remove all the claws one by one. The third and last stage takes off as soon as the new claws are mature. The claws are used to remove the old feathers. Not a single old feather is left. However, by the time the Eagle clocks 150 days of their renewal process, the new feathers are fully grown.
Did you fathom how they feed during these period of rebirth? Guess what, they don’t eat. They make do with their stored energy. As the three prong rebirth process is completed, the Eagle is ready to jet out. As they take their first flight of the rebirth nest, they move with more vigor. As usual they wade against all forms of atmospheric conditions and live happily for the next thirty [30] years. That’s the Eagle with you.
