I have previously talked about looking for work on websites like MyCastingFile.com if you are just starting out and want to do background work. I have talked about Actors Access and Backstage for more serious work. I have talked about finding an agent and also having an acting coach.

Today I want to talk about other ways you can / could find work. Remember you have to be looking all the time! There are film competitions that occur in different areas.. for example, Rack Focus, 48 Hours Film Competition, and many more where writers, directors, actors, and crews compete. If you attend those Pitch sessions and events you have more of an opportunity to work. Are these high paying jobs... most likely not.

Networking is a big area as well. Local organizations will have events where you can meet other actors, casting directors, producers, and even students seeking talent. Why is this a big deal? We were discussing this very topic in class the other day. For example, I attended an audition for feature film X... two weeks later I am offered a role in a Short Film. In the case of the Rack Focus: Film Competition the winning actor was mentioned by his agent in a post... he then picked up a large role shortly afterward. Student Films are managed / overseen by Director or producers. There was a case where one of my acting coach students participated in the Student Film. A year later she was cast by the husband of the teacher for a feature film.

In short, I am saying you can possibly find work anywhere! Also, remember no part is too small... These are stepping stones for your next part. It is laying the foundation of your career. I have heard several stories where people participated in what appeared as a no big deal production... then later on they were offered larger roles because the person knew you fit the part! So no role or part is to small... they are all big! Anyone could be watching from a short film, a student film, or a film competition!

Have a great week... have fun and enjoy yourself!
