The Anatomy of Warfare and Terrorism (or why They Kill)

"Tribal engineering is the idea that culture transmits values and memes to its young in order to inculcate them with the idea that dying for their culture is acceptable."

Collectivism keeps individuals from truly being themselves, it pushes them away from embracing their true identity, and self-actualization. One of the most common forms of collectivism is tribalism, which usually puts the group's needs ahead of the individuals. And, when a culture has been engineered to believe that is acceptable, they will cheer for it.

Yep. I agree wholeheartedly. This was precisely what in was tackling in the article. Thank you for articulating it in this particular way.

"It pushes them away from embracing their true identity, and self-actualization"

Not only that, but it also prevents them from seeing others as human. Collectivism is the most effective method for dehumanizing the individual.

Exactly, collectivism hinders a human from finding their true identity as an individual. When an individual identifies with a race or tribe above themselves they usually dehumanize anyone that is not part of their collective or that is not benefiting their collective identity.
