80s Fashion

Retro fashion trends are all the rage right now, specially those 80s fashion dresses, and clothes used in past decades. Someone once said that fashion is like a big sack to fill and once it’s full, it turns around and starts to come out again. Apart from being a cyclical phenomenon, what is certain is that when we think about how we dressed in the ’80s, a smile is drawn on our face. We will see in this article what made the fashion of the eighties flood the streets with color, tacks, geometries, shoulder pads, carded, etc, in a few words, what caused the transgression decade . Let’s get to know the 80s fashion flavor.
How they Dressed in the 80s

The 80s supposed to be a way of fancy free thinking, dressing, singing and expressing yourself out of conventionalism. It was a time for revolution, and people dressed as they wanted. An anarchy state. It was normal to see the most radical Punk down the street, going through the toughest and most brazen Rock styles passing for a the Rockabilly look, which marked a return to the ’50s.
There is no doubt that this look is eighties

It was about that, living with many different styles and each one of them had space in the city. Many times people dressed according to their standard of living, conditioned by the social class to which they belonged, but there were certain garments common to all these styles. The “well-heeled”, a term that even then referred to young people generally of high social standing that follows the latest fashions and has a very characteristic and affected way and way of speaking, used to wear classic clothes, neutral garments such as pants jeans, skinny jeans, shirts, jackets and that unmistakable sweater knotted around the neck.Fundamentally, fashion was a way of expressing the social rebellion of those young people who showed their nonconformity to the conventions by grouping themselves in what was called “Urban Tribes”. We will make a brief tour of these and their characteristics and know how they influenced the 80s fashion. Urban ethnic groups are groups of young people who dress in a similar way, with common habits and meeting places and behave according to the ideology they share. These people gather for the simple pleasure of being together and to look for their peers. They had ways of thinking and an enormous appetite for acting totally autonomous to those imposed by the culture of their environment, creating independent and parallel thought ecosystems to those of the rest of the world or society in general.

These tribes inspired a heavy atmosphere. They stood out above all for wearing very dark garments, black and leather are the main protagonists, looks with studs, safety pins, badges, patches with images of music groups, tight tights and of course leather jackets. The “Heavy” clothing could be taken as a mix between the careless and irreverent of punks and the prevalence of leather and black rockers. Like most people probably have noticed, punks are cold shoulder against authority which is reflected in what they wear, in this case their military boots. Pants are always skinny and tight, black jeans, wide belts with rivets, black or leather skirts. Accessories were absolutely bubbling full of color and well-made unisex wristbands, chokers or leather belts bonded with spikes and tacks. Chains tied to the waist and girdles made from bullets were also worn as well as any other touch of warlike dyes. Shirts color were unanimously chosen black, with logos of the most relevant superstars bands specially Iron Maiden, Metallica, or Black Sabath. Accessories with tacks, military boots, leather jackets, became the typical distinctive of metal-heads more represented on the Judas Priest group image.

Punk

This was more about the ostentatious hippie look that imported ideas from being “natural and as free as possible”. As a curious note, there were an absence of makeup, and put special attention to wearing long hair along with little lingerie. The 80s landed with a totally different flavor easy to chew and visually attractive, contrived and elaborated. The shaved dyed hair in bright colors marked by a dark makeup and clothes definitely invited to insubordination. Punk movement fashion started in the United States and was characterized for being very simple wearing blue jeans, white shirts and leather jackets such as “The Ramones band”. Pre-owned clothing type was a priority contrasting heavily against the excesses of the disco fashion of the ’70s. As punk fashion evolved, intentional and universally offensive t-shirts containing inverted crucifixes, Nazi and obscurantism symbols etc, were purposely torn apart and became all the rage.

With all in all, 80s passed the acid test dominating an entire era and is still recalled as one of the most significant and influential. If it happens you want to see some cool stuffs just click the image below:
