There seems to be a dilemma between building up retirement savings and not supporting American imperialism. The assumption is that if you are into the stock market, you support the corporations that thrive on Bloody wars.
There is some truth in it. Halfway into reading “No Place to Hide,” by Glenn Greenwald, it occurred to me that the surveillance agencies give industrial espionage information to large American tech companies in exchange for access to their products and spying through certain changes in the product design.
Most obviously, large American-based banks, oil companies and defense companies prosper on democide and destruction.
If you invest in stock mutual funds, you will be depending on the continued Bloody wars and espionage for your own gain. Hard to avoid it. Socially conscious mutual funds don’t avoid the companies involved with surveillance.
One idea is to invest in foreign stock funds (“Ex-U.S.”). You still earn dividends. And inevitably the whole American imperialism will collapse from its own largesse, which will make foreign companies a far better investment.
Another idea is to invest in domestic companies on your own that you think have no interest in wars, surveillance and propaganda. Be your own mutual fund. Or maybe within your 401k your American holdings should be your own selected stocks while your foreign holdings can be in mutual funds.
I do not consider precious metals or cryptocurrency investments, but necessary insurance to protect yourself from the inevitable collapse of the Dollar.
There you have it: To stop profiting from American imperialism; buy individual American companies that do not profit from war or surveillance; invest in international mutual funds: accumulate bitcoin and precious metals.
