Do No Harm, But Take No Shit - It's How You Handle It

in anarchy •  8 years ago  (edited)

One of the greatest aspects of the voluntary society is that if you are tired of someone's shit - you can just leave. If a relationship, whether it be professional or personal, has come to the point where you no longer want to participate, you are free to move on and go to things more valuable than what you just left behind. Luckily, we are afforded this freedom for most of our experiences in this 'normal' state of consciousness: you aren't obligated to go to the restaurant down the street with the crappy tofu, you really don't have to get up and go to work with the people who you would not normally associate with, and you don't have to stay in an abusive relationship where you significant other always screws up your Netflix account.

The Exception

Not so with government. You don't have a choice. Well, you can choose to die if you want to sufficiently resist their extortion and kidnapping efforts paid for by the money they take from you through taxation and inflation. If you want to live, then you must do as the political class and their revenue agents instruct you to do. Or move to Somalia.

How You Handle It

If you don't want to leave, then change how your perceive! Magic rhymes work every time, trust me.

I've recently been on the upswing from a place down, down...way down where fear, doubt, anger, and violence were all around me. It's terrible and strong too. But that makes the victory over it that much better. I had to change my mindset...how I perceived my surroundings. I needed to realize and reinforce that whoever was putting me down was just an ego in a bag of skin. For whatever uncomfortable situation I was in, it was up to me to handle it the best way I could. Focusing on the now, living in the moment, and laughing all the way to the bank.

It's up to you. That's what I've been telling myself. And that's what I'm telling you. Be aggressive in your good works and finish what you started. It's all on you. You are choosing who to be around and how to handle them. Is this inspirational or what? You are choosing whether or not you are upset about what someone said to you. Stand up for yourself! As an AnCap and lover of liberty, I'm a big advocate of the non-aggression principle in every aspect of my life. I'm not a pacifist, but I will do no harm and I won't take no shit...ya dig?

Hey anarchojoe! Nice post, I love reading about voluntarism. Quick tip, if you want the images to show up correctly from steemimg.com, you need to go to the image, and click on 'embed codes' near the bottom, and then copy the image url. For example, the last one here should be:

without the space after https.

Trogdor! Thank you for the tip. I quickly fixed that just a few minutes ago. Still getting used to Steemit!

Amen! It's so true. We choose what we put up with, and how we perceive things. We can change it at any time to something that suits us better.

I remember the first time I realized I didn't have to take someone's shit. I was 19 and arguing with a guy I was dating, who just happened to be the assistant manager at the bookstore where I worked. We were in the store, after hours, and I just had this realization hit me that I didn't have to stand for his shit. I told him so, and walked out of the store. It felt SO GOOD!

I now make a habit of not taking people's shit. But, if you're cool, I'll be your best friend. :)
