As an anarchist I have left the great divide between the left and the right and existed as my own individual happily since.
Yesterday Tucker delivered an amazing speech against war in Syria
Many on the right obviously share these ideas, but some of the left (the few that were actually reached by tucker) were left quite confused as they had demonised the right as terrible people that want war, bloodshed and suffering. But this is a rare topic where some people on the left agree with the right. I looked at some of their surprised comments and the internal struggle caused by their sworn enemy suddenly agreeing with them.
But I do not want to talk about this in detail and instead focus on tribalism and the bubble mentality. When you sign up to be one of a tribe, you start to live in a bubble. In that bubble you only hear from like minded people. When you hear arguments of you perceived opponents you only see them as a comedy. You do not actually listen anymore because you have already made up your mind.
This is already bad, but it causes something even worse. You start to hate the opposing tribes. Hate breeds in isolation and can only be sustained by non-communication. If you really communicate and listen you might start to understand people in the other tribes. And you can disagree, but you cannot hate what you comprehend.
We see this in many cases. Nazis always come from communities where there are few foreigners. They just dont know any privately. If they would, they wouldnt be nazis.
So it leaves society split into camps that do not really communicate, that hate each other and that then plan to push their own agenda against the agenda of the enemy. But you are not your tribe. You are just yourself. You decide what you want and if you agree with others you can work together. It is much better to cooperate on the things we agree than to hate on the points we dont. If we want to prevent a war, I am happy with anybody who shares that view to come and help. And if people from many tribes join in and work together, that is the best. Because maybe we will realise that we are not that different and that the people on the other side of the divide are not crazy lunatics but just normal people like everybody else.
Another problem that feeds into this is the ideas of post-modernism. They believe it does not matter what someone else was trying to say, only if they are offended. So they end up not worrying about what others are saying but only worrying there own feelings.
