In this video, I sit down with author and professor Edward Stringham to talk about private governance and why everything government does, free markets and a free monetary systems do it better!

Edward Stringham works with the American Institute For Economic Research founded by E. C. Harwood in 1933.

Edward also wrote the book 'Private Governance' where he excellently breaks down how the private contract far outweighs the efficiency of the state as voluntary interactions and market competition make for a greater society free of coercion.

From the healthcare system to the monetary system, from a centrally planned cashless society to the beauty of true free market capitalism, Edward lays out what he believes are the problems we face at the hand of the state and how he sees a voluntaryist solution ensuring a just and efficient society free of the enslavement of the state.

Edward is acclaimed by many incredible names in the liberty movement including his former teacher Walter Block, Tom Woods, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Peter Thiel, Marcus Cole and many others!

Stringham is currently the Davis Professor of Economic Innovation at Trinity College in Connecticut.

Thank you for this post. We need to continue to get this message out. The examples of how governments do an inferior job are mind boggling.

Socialism which leads to communism has never worked. If we decide to take all the wealth from the 1% in the world not talking about taxes just talking about theft it still would not support these programs for more then 3 years. So what's the plan after that? Sorry it doesn't work never. Socialism is one big giant Ponzi scheme. Your thoughts?

The good old religion and myth of the free market is still alive and well I see.

You realize that you're currently posting on a free market system right?
Do you have an argument?

Everything ?

I agree that privatization of the prison seems seems like a potentially gray area, but the problem here isn't just the companies running the prison, but the officials receiving contributions from the prison lobby (aka, corruption of the government), but also, utter lack of enforcement of the guidelines set forth as part of the contract agreements between the prison and the government (again, likely due to government corruption). There's nothing special about a government run prison that would make it better/safer than a privately run prison.

And while I'm sure that report is likely fairly accurate, I;m not sure I'd personally use China's state-run media/propaganda network to show my point ;)

The thing I hate about leftist economists if that they are against monopoly but they want more government. Behind every monopoly is the magic hand of government. Amazon would be as big as it is if they had to pay regular shipping fees instead of getting a $1 subsidy for every item they ship.

I would generally agree on your point about monopolies, but do you have further info about Amazon's subsidies?

Government ruins everything. Government takeover of industries ruin everything. I won't deny the free market has its flaws, but in pretty much every case a more free market based economy is better off when compared to a more government run economy

Josh I really think you should come down to Honduras to see how a free market really works, not theory, the real thing.

Honduras is not a "Free Market". There is government involvement and manipulation, therefor it's not free.

Oh it is free, businesses run the country, and the government is run by business, basically Honduras is an anarchy there are parts of the country where the government has no control, but like I told you, you should come down and see how it works, also you are free to carry weapons and you can own as many as you want. I think you'd love it, the murder rate is a bit high, but that just comes with the territory.

"Businesses runs the country..,government run by business " hmm... sounds like America.

And let's not forget that the real powers of the world want it that way.

Yes but isn't that a free market? If not then we have to re define what a free market is.

Governments of the world are businesses blatantly lying about the goods they are selling, and yet we cannot choose to not BUY in. We will be kidnapped and locked in a cage if we refuse to pay for what they are selling. This is not free markets

Yes, but that is what I have been trying to say, everyone is mistaking free market, someone has to come with a definition of what it should be, what we have at this moment all over the world are fascist states were the governments and business (big business ) are colluded in screwing up the common folk. This is not just the banks, which is what you mostly hear, ex, we have to get rid of central banks, no I think we have to get rid of all of these businesses that act like vultures, I am not against anyone making money but I would think they would have to make money honestly, you know paying fair wages, giving back to the community, etc.

i am for healthy markets (if we can ever truly get them) but there also will always be a social /communal element of regulation. it's another complicated topic it would seem... what is for sure is we all need to get more educated, unfortunately it seems like society is getting less educated in many ways

Everything is already privatized...
Its just a monopoly to give you the color of the 'public corporation/state'
But there is no such thing as a 'public' corporation,
The capital could be publically available via stock... but that's it.
Even your State is a privately owned corporation,
Try Edgard SEC...

What is needed - within the paradigm of slavilization - is competition...
But the owner of the plantation won't let that happen easily
;)
