WhatsApp may start showing ads next year

According to https://www.wsj.com/articles/facebooks-new-message-to-whatsapp-make-money-1533139325
It seems that WhatsApp will implement ads on its stories section (just like Instagram and Snapchat) next year, do you think this may reduce WhatsApp usage in favor of other apps like telegram or everything will remain the same?
