The Philippine pond turtle, also known as the "palawan forest turtle", "Philippine forest turtle" or "Leyte pond turtle", is a semi-aquatic turtle that inhabits rivers, streams, creeks, swamps, and lakes in lowland forest.
Long thought to occur in the island of Leyte,Philippines., Studies indicate that the species actually occurs in Palawan. It has distinctive white to yellowish-white band traversing its heah behind the ears with typically brown carapace and yellowish brown to tan plastron.
Locally called "bakuko", "Bayu-o" or "Tumanog", this fresh water turtle is more active at night(nocturnal), feeding on fishes, crabs, shrimps, algae, and ripe figs. It is also secretive, hiding under rocks or deep burrows along riverbanks.
The Philippine forest turtle is critically endangered because of illegal collection for the pet trade and continued destruction of its habitat.
Hope our government look for this matter and i hope this endangered species will give care and attention, before it will vanished. Hope you earn some knowledge about my blog today.😊Happy reading.😊
