The emergence of a mysterious fish in Wareham, southeast coast of Massachusetts, United States, shocked a number of residents. They thought it was a large, stranded shark. But it turns out that the fish is sunfish or sunfish. This fish shocked the public there because it has a large body like a lump that eats jellyfish and has fins on its back like a shark. As a result of this incident, residents immediately reported it to the related officers.

Quoted from Nytimes , Friday (16/10/2020), Head of Wareham Port Garry Buckminster said he began receiving calls from residents there since 06.30 on Monday.

Mola-sunfish are the heaviest bony fish in the ocean and are often described as slow and sloppy swimmers. This is explained by Carol Carson, founder of the New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance.

"These are tough fish. They can dive more than 2,500 feet," said Carson, who is also a whale biologist.

He said the fish might have taken a wrong turn into the bay while trying to swim south. Wareham officers informed that the fish had been seen since Monday. Carson says anyone who sees sunfish in a harbor or cove in Massachusetts this time of year should contact the authorities.
