Aceh Elephant Under Pressure of The Palm Oil Plantation Company

These photo were taken in PT. Satya Agung Palm Oil Plantation, at Kec. Geureudong Pase, North Aceh Regency about 2 months ago.

Currently Aceh forest area is the main contributor in terms of population number of elephants in Sumatra. the number of the population is still significant, as a whole the Sumatran elephant in Aceh province about total 475 - 500 individuals, this elephant group spread in several habitat pockets such as in Lokop - Peunaron (Aceh Timur - Aceh Utara) amounted to 200- 250, Bengkung - Trumon South Aceh - Aceh Singkil) amounted to 80 - 100 individuals, Beutong (Nagan Raya) amounted to 40-60 individuals, Ulu Masen habitat habitat (Aceh Jaya, Gempang, Pijay and Aceh Barat) amounted to 100 - 120 individuals, Peusangan habitat habitat with 40 - 50 Individuals, Pidie 20 - 30 individuals (FKGI, at al, 2016).

This amount can be said to be quite large at present in Sumatra, Aceh forest becomes a significant representative of Sumatran elephant in Indonesia to the world, therefore, to maintain elephant also felt more difficult, because of habitat and elephant room itself. in addition to development factors and other factors that lead to the clearing of land in Aceh will certainly sacrifice the elephant habitat.
