The chimpanzee belongs to the most known animals at all. In the forest areas and savannahs of the lowlands Afrika´s is its home. Of all apes, the chimpanzee is the closest to humans. They can adapt well to various habitats, which is one reason why they are so often seen in zoological gardens.

Physique
The males weigh up to 50 kg and reach almost 1.70 metres when raised; females are slightly smaller. The fur of the chimpanzees is gray until black colored, what has to do strongly with the respective spread-area. The thumb is opposite the other fingers and can be used so ideally for grasping. Chimpanzees move on all fours and support themselves on that occasion with the wrists or finger knuckles since they cannot spread your hands completely. The arms are significantly longer than the legs. He has more than twice as much muscle mass as a human being and has very strong teeth. As opponents, chimpanzees are therefore very dangerous. In zoological gardens they have already severely injured guards.

Nutrition
Chimpanzees feed mainly on fruit and plant food. Sometimes this is done by meat or insects. They use small tools to achieve their goals. For example, they put sticks in anthills in order to gain insects better. They also get honey from bee nests in a similar way. The preferences for certain food seems to be less innate than shaped by the environment. So it comes the chimpanzee in some areas love eggs and spurn them somewhere else. Some prefer certain fruits, others reject certain foods. They drink very rarely. Their need for liquids is met by the high proportion of fruit in their food.
