Reproduction and development
Like all apes, chimpanzees are ready to mate all year round. Conception-ready females are to be recognized well through the red-shining and swollen sex and anus-region already from far, this swelling lasts approximately 10 days. This works so to speak as "trigger" for the males.
An advertisement does not take place. Chimpanzee females are not monogamous, but mate several times consecutively with different males. The Tragezeit amounts to 8 months. Newborn chimpanzees weigh scarcely 2 kg and are suckled approx. 2 years. Rarely, twins are born. The first months, the boys are carried around by its mother constantly with. Afterwards, they become fast independent, however, always return the first years to the mother. In the distance of 5 to 6 years, the females carry out young again. With 9 -11 years, they become sexually mature and join the ranking of the group. Chimpanzees reach an age of scarcely 40 years.
Enemies
Beside the human being, its natural enemies are predatory cats like leopards, but also small parasites like worms fall victim to it more frequently. If they are attacked by e.g. leopards, the whole group defends itself together. They scream, throw sticks and run towards the enemy to drive him away, which they often succeed in doing.
