A tsetse fly that is sucking human blood
Tsetse flies are the name of a unique insect. What's unique about this insect? Well, if other types of flies like houseflies & bottled fly are known to spread the disease that affects the digestive tract, the tsetse flies can be popular because they are blood-sucking insects that spread sleeping sickness in the African region there. Although the name of the disease sounds weird, but actually the danger caused by sleeping sickness is no less dangerous than other diseases such as malaria!
Before we discuss the problem of sleeping sickness that makes this fly famous, we first discuss about insects. Tsetse flies (read: set-se) / tik-tik flies are a kind of fly found only on the African Continent, particularly in central Africa. There are about 20 species of more tsetse flies that are known to humans & all are classified into the genus Glossina. These species of tsetse flies by scientists are further classified into 3 subgenus according to their habitat: Mensitans subgenus (pasture), Fusca (forest), & Palpalis (riverside).
