Whereas according to a study, cemani chicken is black in color because of the unique genetic conditions commonly called fibromelanosis.

Body color may be black, but not with eggs. Eggs of chicken cemani have the same shape and color with the eggs in general, ie white bone or cream and there are young red spots. When the egg is opened and seen inside, the color remains the same as the other chicken eggs. When this cemani chicken embryo appears, then black color also appears.

The population of cemani chickens is now declining and getting scarce. Data from BackyardChickenCoops shows that the number of cemani chickens around the world is only about 3500 heads. The cause of this chicken population decline is the level of breeding is quite limited and this chicken can only be cultivated in Indonesia and some European countries only.
