You love your pet, and you want them to be happy and healthy all the time. But, with all of the choices available to you, it can sometimes feel like a challenge to keep your pet in tip-top shape! If you have one or more pets, here are five ways that you can keep them as happy and healthy as they deserve to be.
1 - Don't Skip Meals
One of the easiest ways to keep your pet healthy is by making sure they are fed three times a day. If you're going out of town, make arrangements for someone else to feed them or make sure they have plenty of food in their dish. The last thing you want is for your cat or dog to feel starved while you're gone.
The same applies if you get called into work unexpectedly. Make arrangements with a neighbor or family member so that your pet has food available at all times.
2 - Exercise
Exercise is extremely important for pets because it strengthens their heart, lungs, muscles, and bones. A lack of exercise can lead to obesity, which can lead to a number of other health issues. A dog’s natural instinct is to roam and explore, so it's up to the owner to make sure that they are given an outlet for this energy. Dogs should be taken on walks daily or even twice-daily as needed. Cats will require at least some sort of playtime outside the house as well.
3 - Get Fresh Air
It's important for your pets to get fresh air on a regular basis. The best way to do this is by taking them out for walks, but if you can't, bring the outdoors in by placing a few pot plants around your home. As long as they're not poisonous, your pet will be happy sniffing around them. You should also make sure that all of your windows are open as often as possible so that they can take in some fresh air.
Give Them Plenty of Exercise: There's nothing worse than having an energetic pup who isn't allowed to run off his energy outside because it's too cold or wet outside. One way you can help with this is by setting up an obstacle course for them to play on inside.
4 - Use Supplements
Using supplements is a great way to make sure your pets are getting the nutrients they need. Even if you feed them a balanced diet, nutrient deficiencies can develop over time as their bodies adapt. A few supplements that your pet might benefit from are omega-3 fatty acids for a healthy skin and coat, vitamin D for strong bones, probiotics for a healthy digestive system, and antioxidants like glutathione for aging pets.
5 - Mental Stimulation
One way to keep your pet happy and healthy is by providing mental stimulation. With so much time spent at home, it is important for them to have something to do. Provide puzzle toys or food puzzles for them. If you are looking for a challenge, try hiding their food around the house and see if they can find it! Give them more than one toy to play with and rotate which ones they play with each day. To make sure that they are getting plenty of exercise outside, take them on walks every day or let them roam free in the backyard.
