Amazing Facts about the Elephant

Elephants are one of the largest animal on the earth planet in term of body weight and mass. They are characterize with trunks, floppy ear and thick leg.

The two main species of elephant still on existence is the Asian Elephant and African Elephant which live in different continents of the world with distinctive features. The African Elephant can be found in sub-Sahara Africa, West Africa and the Rain Forest of the Central Africa, whereas the Asian Elephant live in India, Nepal and SoutheEast Asia in the Rain Forest and Scrub Forest .

In term of size, the African Elephants are the largest in size compared to Asian Elephant. Their growth is about 8.2 to 13 feet tall and they weigh about 2,268 to 6350 kg according to the National Geographic Research Institute.

Elephants feed on fruits, bark of trees and grasses. There is used to pull the bark of trees and excavate roots from the ground, though it is believed that an elephant has an appetite according to its size.

When elephants moves in group, it is called HERD, which is been led by the oldest female elephant called the Matriarch. They move in group together with the young elephants and the adult male.

The young or baby elephant is called “calf” while the male and female are called “Bull” and “Cow” respectively.
Elephant also have their mode of communicating with each by raising their trunk in solidarity to each other especially when they come across other elephants not from their herds.
