The grasshopper body consists of 3 main parts, namely head, chest (thorax) and abdomen (abdomen). Grasshopper also has 6 six foot jointed, 2 pairs of wings, and 2 antennas. Long back legs are used to jump while short forelimbs are used for walking. Despite having no ears, locusts can hear. The hearing instrument of the locust is called the tympanum and is located on the abdomen near the wing. Tympanum is shaped like a large round disk consisting of several processors and nerves used to monitor the vibrations in the air, functionally similar to a human eardrum. Grasshopper breathes with trachea.
Grasshoppers have 5 eyes (2 compound eye, and 3 ocelli). Grasshoppers belong to a group of outer framing animals (exoskeleton). Other examples of animals with exoskeleton are crabs and lobsters.
Adult female locust is larger than adult male locust, which is 58-71 mm while the male locust is 49-63 mm with body weight about 2-3 gram.
