Heron catches a mouse

Garza Mora cazo un ratón

The White-Neckes Heron (Argea cocoi) is common in the lagoons and aroyos near Mar del Plata, Argentina. On this occasion I could photograph her when she had caught a mouse. This species is distributed in the eastern portion of the country and in the Andean lakes of Neuquén and Chubut. It lives in lagoons, estuaries, bathed with preference of those who have reed beds. It is usually seen perched in trees. It feeds on fish, reptiles and amphibians. It is the largest heron in the region, measuring 75 cm high.

• La Garza Mora (Argea cocoi) es común en las lagunas y arroyos cercanos a Mar del Plata, Argentina. En esta ocasión la pude fotografiar cuando había cazado un ratón. Esta especie esta distribuida en la porción oriental del país y en los lagos andinos de Neuquén y Chubut. Habita en lagunas, esteros, bañados con preferencia de los que tienen juncales. Suele verse posada en árboles. Se alimenta de peces, reptiles y anfibios. Es la garza más grande de la región, mide 75 cm de alto.
