Wildlife Adventures And Old Houses

Last week I attempted to do a selfie for @papa-pepper's combination photography contest and had the lens on zoom still, making my "proof" photo useless. Well, now I have a much better entry...

Our old house is the oldest occupied home in the area. It has many charming features, especially a view that is just beyond belief. It is old, though, and has some real issues. The local mayor / veterinarian lived here for a while, tried to renovate it. He gave up and moved. We try, but it is old, and we are old, and... well, some things just fall apart faster than we can put them back together.

The tile next to our stovepipe fell off last winter. It lead to the dead air space next to the flue, it looked a little funky but it was not a safety issue so it did not make the priority list. We have not been up to check what happened at the top of the chimney yet... "we" being @longsilver and the mouse in his pocket... He has a day job that has required his presence since this little living room wildlife adventure began. I suspect the winds around here - which can absolutely HOWL - knocked something off and now the birds try to land up top and occasionally miss. They fall all the way down to my living room. They come out the hole next to my stove pipe and soon they beat themselves slightly senseless against the nearest window. At least then I can easily pick them up and set them free. (I have actually gotten a few to find the door, some are loopy before I get the doors open.)

However, the sting of last week's botched entry was fresh in my mind, the camera was right there near the window where I caught the latest dazed critter... I am in!
