The wonderful world of insects - Damselflies heart

in animalphotography •  7 years ago  (edited)

Some time ago I started "The Wonderful World of Insects". I have reached the 5th post, today. You can see the first posts here , here, here and here.
I do not write these posts as an insect specialist(I'am not), I write these posts as a photographer. I am just an observer of nature through the camera lens.
Today I have for you a whole catch of damselflies. There are absolutely amazing insects. They are like dragonflies, but smaller ones, having weak flight and typically resting with the wings folded back along the body.

An interesting thing about these insects is that their bodies take heart shape during mating.

Damselflies are not as harmless as they seem. Do you know why? They are beautiful and interesting, but at the same time, some ferocious aerial predators with strong teeth and with a 360 degree view due to the very large eyes.
It has two sets of wings that move independently of each other, which ensures fantastic mobility during the flight. Damselfly can fly in any direction, even laterally or backward.
Here are some more pictures of this insect

Thank you!

Those dark blue wings are just gorgeous!
I have a hard time catching them. Or Dragonflies. They are so fast!

Their flight is very fast. I spent a full morning taking these pictures. But it was worth the effort!🙂
