Swan Lake, where more than 100 beautiful birds live

This fairy place was accidentally found near the city of Evpatoria. It is located right at the road, where a large stream of cars is moving. Next to this lake, on the roadside dozens of cars and people who are admiring what is happening. We also stopped to look and saw more than a hundred swans, ducks, gulls, fish.

This pretty large lake is called Sasyk-Sivash. This is a shallow lagoon, the former Azov Bay. The lake is ancient, it is mentioned in the first century by the geographer of Ancient Greece, called Sapro, but it was formed in the ice age.

In translation from the Tatar language Sasyk - rotten, fetid, Sivash - mud. The depth of the lake, mostly about a meter, and at the bottom of a five-meter layer of silt. In summer, the air temperature reaches 38-40 degrees, the water evaporates quickly, leaving salty deposits on the banks and exuding a terrible smell. The lake has 11 bays, some of them constitute 87% of salt, the total reserves of which are more than 200 million tons!

The southern part of the lake, more saturated with salt, is divided by a dam. In May, July and August, the lake becomes pink due to the growth of bacteria Dunaliella Salina. Stunning photos of this place I will show in one of the following posts.

Swans and other living beings live in the fresh part of the lake. Local residents and tourists feed Sasik-Sivash birds, many of which are practically tame. Snow-white adults swans and beige teens take bread literally from hands, fight for a tasty slice, make girls admire the beauty and grace of sliding along the water surface of the lake.
