TURKEY VULTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

These guys do some great work!

While at the lake today with @grandpa-pepper and my mom, @mama-pepper pointed out some of these to me. The Turkey Vulture is a large bird that helps clean up dead animal carcasses, and this time is was large dead carp by the lake. While the @little-peppers went to play at the park with their grandparents, I took the time to get some photo practice in. I tried changing my location to get some different backgrounds in, which I think worked pretty well. Also, I had trouble picking favorites, so here's a photo dump! Enjoy!

CREEPY BIRDS IN CREEPY TREES

I'm not sure why these particular birds always seem to hang out in old, dead, creepy trees, but they sure seem to. Such was the case today. After they got scared away from their lunch, up to the dead trees they went!

FLY AWAY!!!

I managed to snap a few photos of them in flight too. These were more difficult, and they were flying away, but they still turned out pretty well. Here are a couple more.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Until next time…

great job and photos proof. happy always

Turkey Vultures aka TV's are very common throughout their range, and are often seen in congregations at a carcass. They have been shown to have a powerful sense of smell.

Wow Papa, that is a menacing looking creature. Scary !! But some nice shots. my man

Thanks! I'm still learning with this new camera, but happy with the results.

I never really knew something like this also existed.

You truly are a running computer.😃
By the way nicely described

I'm not sure, but I guess I've just met a lot of them before.

it may be a very comfortable place he stopped after he ate, because the place is also no one bothering him.

Wow..this is creature looks scary..very nice shot papa..😉

Nice series. I really like images #9 and #10. They're very clean and simple. :)

What a way to describe a vulture, never found such information at google too.
Hats off sir.

What is beneficial is not always pretty. They look good in flight, though.

Good point!

Shadow went over my head today in backyard. looked up an there was your Vulture. Pretty low, circled but to late to get the camera.

They are all over North America! I guess that another thing a lot of us have in common!

I've not seen this bird in person yet. I don't think we have such in PH. ..
Nice shots you have here... I love the last on-flight photos.

this bird reminded me to the chicken .. bird what is this @papa-pepper

It is a very unpleasant bird, but it is the one that cleans all the dead animals, hehe it is as my mother says the zamuro as of all but he does not eat anybody that disgusting must be

They sure do help keep things clean. Glad eating rotting carcasses is their job and not mine!

howdy @papa-pepper! these guys do a great job indeed. Here in TX it is a felony to kill them, TX wants those roads cleaned up! this one landed in our backyard awhile back and was joined by several others, they are huge with wingspans about 4 or 5 ft. You must have an excellent camera to get such good shots in flight but then you are skilled also!

The camera is excellent. My skills are being worked on. Nice photo yourself though!

Nice photography.

nice picture

Imagine a world without this animal and those like it. A very smelly, maggot infested, disease prone world. They do the dirty work and keep the place clean. A friend of mine hit one by accident and it came crashing through the window of his pickup. The smell was impossible to remove from his truck. I believe the vulture lived.

Wow, I can't imagine having one in the vehicle!

That would be bad news!

Turkey vultures strange and creepy animals. They feed on dead carcasses. They disgust me too.

I like 'em. They serve a good purpose.

Really asides feeding on dead carcasses I don't know any other purposes they serve. Please enlighten me

They may not be the world's prettiest bird, but they serve a purpose in the grand scheme of things. These photos are really good, @pap-pepper. I think I like the ones in flight best. But that's just me...

Not sure why but in my area I have seen more and more of them these past few years. The population of hawks seem to remain the same though.
