A couple of White Rhino photographed in Botswana. Unfortunately poachers have killed all of the rhino in our area. The government of Botswana and the men and woman on the ground do a great job in their constant ongoing struggle to limit the damage done by poachers in Botswana.

Wow, such beautiful creatures! Im sorry tho, for the killing. I dont think they deserve it. :(

They are beautiful and definitely don't deserve to die. The sad part is they die needlessly because a bunch of idiots believe it will make them more virile. Unfortunately they are not a priority to 3rd world governments and with corruption very little is done to stop the poaching.

It is sad to see people hunting and killing rhinos. It makes me so sad!

very sad indeed. That is why there are people on the ground risking their lives on a daily basis as part of Anti Poaching units for less than $100 per month.

Nice photo again!
it seems like your getting really close to the animals when taking your photos
isn't that a bit scary?

Get very close and I will admit that there have been a few very scary moments and close calls, but in general just nice and relaxed.

Great photo. It’s always amazing to see rhinos, surprising to see that they still exist. Shameful that we are destroying beautiful creations in our world. Hopeful things will change soon before we have nothing.

There are still a few pockets with very healthy populations, but they are all struggling with poaching. Unfortunately all anti poaching is reactive and it is a loosing battle. It needs to be proactive with the heads of the various cartels / groups being targeted and not the individuals on the ground. At the current rate of slaughter, future generations will not be able to enjoy these beautiful animals.

White Rhinos can live up to 40 years in the wild. They are not as aggressive as black rhinos. They can run very fast, up to 40 km/h for short periods.
Adult males weigh between 2,000 and 2,500 kg and females 1,500-2,000 kg.
Body length: 330-420 cm.
What is theory of the origins of the name "white rhinoceros"?

The White Rhino has a very square wide mouth, ideal for grazing on grass compared to the Black Rhino which has a more pointy jaw with a prehensile upper lip used for browsing on leaves between the big thorns of acacia etc. The early French Huguenot and Dutch settlers referred to the white rhino as Wye meaning wide (referring to the mouth shape) the English speaking settlers mistook this thinking they meant white, which is the name that stuck. Hence we have White Rhino and Black Rhino, even though both species are Grey.
