I took this among many other photos at the Giraffe Manor on 2nd December last year. The Giraffe Manor is a hotel and a respected giraffe sanctuary in Lang'ata suburb of the capital Nairobi. They house the most endangered giraffe subspecies as enlisted by IUCN, the Rothschild giraffe. In 2016 there was only 1671 individual of these beautiful creatures were recorded in the wild.
It was constructed in 1932 by Sir David Duncan modeled as a Scottish Hunting lodge. After being handed down from buyer to buyer, it's now owned by Mikey and Tanya Carr-Hartley. It's legacy as a giraffe sanctuary stays so whoever has managed it has had the pleasure of taking care of Rothschild giraffes and baby warthogs at some point or the other.
Due to this books like Beth Leslie's 'Raising Daisy Rothschild' and Lynn Sherr, 'Tall Blondes. A Book about Giraffes' saw the light of our days. The Manor has also and is still working with England's Woburn Safari Park and the even more amazing Giraffe Center in Nairobi in various captive programmes to add on the dwindling population in the wild.
Rothschild giraffes are the tallest among the giraffe sub-species, measuring up to 5.88 meters (19.3 feet) tall. The males are usually larger and have darker colors :)
