COMMON RINGTAIL POSSUM!

This is my entry for the #animalphotography curated and sponsored by @juliank and @photocontests. Please click to enlarge image.

This very cute Ringtail Possum literally landed at my feet just as I was about to get into my car. He or she and another one of the same size fell out of a tree during a visit to Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane, Queensland.

Thankfully I had my camera handy and when they were placed back into their tree, one scampered up the tree trunk immediately but this one was a bit stunned and needed a rest before it joined its companion. The Australian Common Ringtail Possum (Pseudocheirus Peregrins) Are about the size of a small cat with a body length of 350mm and their tails reaching 350mm also.

They weigh approximately 1 kg. Their colours range from sliver-grey, brown-black or rusty-red and their tails are thin with a white tip and their eyes are dark caramel colour. They are found in rainforest areas, along waterways, in parks and in backyard gardens especially if thick vegetation is available.

They dwell happily in suburban areas but are threatened by cats and dogs. Ringtail possums are common in Eastern Coastal Australia, South Eastern areas and in Tasmania. Their diet consists of flowers and leaves build tidy nests built of ferns, twigs and bark, preferring mango, palm and bottle brush trees. They can often strip the leaves completely from umbrella trees. Although they are generally quiet, they can make sudden, high pitched sounds.

Thats a cute one. here in the USA they dont look so nice. Big grey things with teeth poking out of their mouths. They are harmless but very scary looking.

Ooooh, I wouldn't want to get too close to one of these @woodywood143 A great photo though......and what a fine set of teeth! Upped.

What a little cutie :)))

He was really cute Erika and I'm glad he didn't hurt himself too much when he fell to the ground.

Poor thing, I'm glad too. My heart is aching when I see animals get hurt and I can't help!

Very true Erika. I was very happy to see him scamper back up the tree without any apparent damage. 😊

They look cute, but don't ever try to handle one (trust me on this!)

Thank you @terrylovejoy A passer-by picked him up and put him back in the tree. I think he was still a little stunned. I am familiar with the New Zealand possums and know just how aggressive they were at times, so I understand what you are saying.

Thank you @cheetah Much appreciated.

They look cute! Don't know if they are, but they sure look it!

They are very cute @ocrdu.......especially when they are young but they can become aggressive if they feel threatened. Thanks so much for your wonderful support. It is much appreciated.

That is very cute indeed @trudeehunter, and a very nice picture. We don't have them on my island I wish we did so we would have a lot less ticks.

Really cute!! :)

Thank you @veta-less

Cute little fella :D I see then only on tv..

They do look cute @ewkaw but those looks can deceive as they can attack if provoked.......and those claws are awfully long and sharp. But!!!!! Their fur is very soft and we know how you like soft, animal fur. (:

Bunny soft? :P
I do, I do :)) They are still adorable even with those claws.

Yes @ewkaw.......definitely bunny soft........just how you like them (: Not like the alpaca or koalas. (:

Hahahah :D
I want a possum then :p
